01 The story, in three paragraphs

Why everyone keeps coming back.

Located right on 80-88 Hautapu Street in Taihape, Wildbean Cafe is a welcoming haven for travelers and locals alike craving exceptional coffee and a warm, comfortable spot to relax. This inviting café, bakery, and coffee shop combo perfectly blends the convenience of a classic BP service station with the charm and personality of a local favorite.

What sets Wildbean Cafe apart is its genuine commitment to customer experience, as reflected in heartfelt reviews from visitors. Tamara McIlwrick fondly recalls her stopover on a long journey with her baby, appreciating the spotless, freshly cleaned play area that allowed her little one to crawl about safely—an invaluable touch that speaks volumes about the cafe’s thoughtful approach to families on the road.

For coffee lovers, Wildbean truly shines. As one guest, Heath An, shared, the kindness of the staff and the perfect cup of hot coffee made a daunting rainy, foggy night drive feel a little less lonely and much more comforting. The quality of the coffee here is not just a fuel stop – it’s an experience, often hailed as “the best coffee between Palmerston North and Waiouru” by regulars like Flutterby Monarchs. While hot food options can sometimes be limited during busy times, the café’s focus on freshly brewed coffee and bakery delights never wavers.

The atmosphere at Wildbean Cafe is effortlessly friendly and upbeat, amplified by a team that genuinely enjoys what they do. Morna Patrick highlights the staff’s friendliness, speed, and positive energy—a marked improvement that regular patrons undoubtedly appreciate. Petra Riddell also notes the café’s unique layout, making it a distinctive and memorable stop compared to other BP outlets.

Whether you’re passing through Taihape or settling in for a laid-back morning coffee break, Wildbean Cafe offers a genuine sense of community and care that elevates the usual pit stop experience. From expertly crafted espresso shots and freshly baked goods to the warm smiles behind the counter, it’s a place where both the journey and the pause are delightfully rewarded.

For those traveling the North Island, Wildbean Cafe promises a moment of refreshment, connection, and great taste—exactly what every traveler looks for along a long drive.

I stopped by cafe to get some coffee at night and the staff was really nice and kind then any bp I went. The way from Wellington to Taupo in rainy foggy night is really frightening especially when nobody drives but me. but the staff’s small care about my hot coffee made my journey better. thank you.

In the busy season, they get reaaally busy. Coffees take 15 minutes plus, and the checkout lines are long. Other than that, they're great, with good indoor seating, and charging points by the bar style seats.
